WasteNet Action Plan 2012-2013

WasteNet Southland is a joint committee of the Invercargill City Council, Gore District Council and Southland District Council. Our mission is to provide the shared service for the coordinated delivery of waste management and minimisation for the WasteNet Councils.

Waste is a Resource

Southlanders discarded 59,000 tonnes of materials in 2010-2011.  This represents 650kgs per person.  Our goal over the next 6 years is to move Southland towards a culture of "waste is a resource" through implementing the actions of the Southland Waste Management and Minimisation Plan 2012-2018 (the Plan).

This WasteNet Action Plan has been developed to assist the WasteNet Councils' to implement the Plan adopted in June 2012.  The Action Plan sets out a 12-month forward thinking programme for the region, where we focus on 'getting our house in order' thorugh initiatives such as a joint solid waste bylaw, internal waste minimisation policies, education for behaviour change strategy and regional waste data management.
