Aluminium Foil or Tin Foil

Tin Foil

Aluminium foil

Tin foil used to be a thin leaf made of tin.  However actual tin foil was superseded by cheaper and more durable aluminium foil after World War II.  Aluminium foil is sometimes confused with 'tin foil' because of the similarity to the former material.

You can reduce the need for using tin foil by alternatively using a heatproof dish with a lid.

Clean tin foil can be recycled.

How to recycle it?
  • Foil to be free of food
  • Small pieces molded into a ball the size of a tennis ball.

Where to recycle it?
  • Local recycling collection service
  • Recycle drop off centres (in bin labelled aluminium)

If you are unable to reduce or recycle the tin foil, the next best practical option is disposal to the regional landfill through your local refuse collection service.

Where do I dispose of it?
