Balloons

Balloons

Modern day balloons are made from a liquid rubber called latex.  Before rubber balloons were invented people inflated pig bladders and animal intestines.

Did you know, the first rubber balloon was invented back in 1824 by Professor Michael Faraday.

Reduce

You can reduce the need for balloons by using alternative decorating techniques such as bunting flags, sky lanterns, streamers, ribbons, kites and garden spinners.

Reuse

Here are a few suggestions on what you can do with a deflated balloon

  • Make a stress ball out of a deflated balloon
  • Cut up and reuse in scrapbooking, collages and art projects

Disposal

Balloons are not recyclable.  The best way to dispose of them is to the regional landfill through your local rubbish collection service.
