I live in rural Southland

Southland District Council does not provide kerbside refuse collection to rural properties unless they are on the refuse collection route and want to use the service. Council does provide 24-7 recycle drop off centres and operates waste transfer stations and greenwaste only facilities.

Refuse Collection

Council does not provide kerbside refuse collection services to rural properties - unless your property is on the collection route and you want the service.  You can take your recycling to your nearest recycle drop-off centre (free) and take your rubbish to your nearest transfer station.  Or check out the yellow pages under "Waste Disposal" and "Recycling" for private contractors that offer rubbish collection services.

Waste Transfer Stations

Council operates six Waste Transfers Stations for the disposal of bulk loads of waste (rubbish), greenwaste (garden waste), scrap metal  recyclables, pre-loved materials and small quantities of hazardous chemicals.  Fees apply.

Recycle Drop-off Centre

There are 11 recycle drop-off centres located throughout the district for the disposal of bulk loads of household recyclables.  The Centres are open 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
