This summer 1,000 reusable in-car rubbish bags will be given away to Southlanders as part of a trial devised by Highways South and WasteNet Southland.

COVID-19 Solid Waste Services under Alert Level 2

The Government announced we are now at COVID-19 alert level 2 as of Wednesday 12 August at noon.   This will impact how we delivery some of our solid waste services.

Rubbish truck fire likely caused by hot ashes

Careless disposal of hot ashes are believed to have causes a rubbish truck fire in Invercargill yesterday, with the quick thinking of the driver being credited for averting what could have been a deadly incident.

Solid Waste Services under Alert Level 2

Solid waste services will be returning to a new normal as New Zealand moves to Alert Level 2 on Thursday 14 May.  Council transfer stations will be returning to normal operating hours from Thursday, excluding Gore transfer station, which will be returning to normal hours from Monday 18 May.

Recycling processing restarting in Southland on 11 May

WasteNet Southland and Southland disAbility Enterprises are pleased to announce recycling processing services will restart on Monday 11 May 2020.  Due to COVID-19, manual recycling processing services were not able to be safely conducted at Alert Level 4, resulting in recycling being disposed to landfill.
