What to do with the tree?
After Christmas, real Christmas trees can be disposed of at your transfer station. Artificial or fake Christmas trees can be put away until next year (but if broken, can be placed in your red rubbish bin for disposal).
After you have finished with your real Christmas Tree, you can dispose of it at the greenwaste (or garden waste) area at your local transfer station. Here your old Christmas Tree will be remade into new soil (by a process called composting).
If you have an artificial Christmas Tree, that is unable to be used again next year, you can dispose of it in your red rubbish bin. While most artificial or fake Christmas trees are made of metals and plastic, we cannot recycle them in Southland.
