If tinsel, ornaments, mistletoe and lighting decorations cannot be reused next year, these can be disposed of in your red rubbish bin.
Reuse last years Christmas decorations where possible, however if they are looking worse for wear, please dispose of them in your red rubbish bin. Most decorations such as tinsel, tree ornaments are made from a mixture of materials and cannot be recycled in Southland.
Did you know that Tinsel was invented in Germany around 1610; originally made from strands of silver; and used to decorate sculptures rather than Christmas trees. Now-a-days Christmas tree tinsel is made up of metallic or metallic coloured strands tied onto a string or cord. Check out this you-tube clip for "How Christmas Tinsel is made".
Recycle your empty aerosol cans in the yellow recycling bin or local recycle centre
